Assessment accommodation
DutiesThe Geomatics Technician provides geomatics technical services, including mapping, spatial analysis and data management support for all program areas at Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park. The duties will include, but will not be limited to, developing, managing, and implementing geomatics tools, projects, and products, and the position will be responsible for acquiring, evaluating, and processing data, conducting GIS analysis and producing GIS products tailored to specific audiences. Participation in cross-functional programs and projects may be required, as needed.
Work environmentBruce Peninsula National Park (BPNP) and Fathom Five National Marine Park (FFNMP) are located at the tip of the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula in the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. BPNP is characterized by shoreline cliffs plunging into the turquoise water of Georgian Bay, large tracts of forest, and a mosaic of habitats home to black bears, rare reptiles, ancient cedar trees, orchids and ferns. FFNMP is Canadas first national marine park, and known for its deep freshwater ecosystem, ancient rock formations, cliff edge forests, historic shipwrecks, and orchid species. Together, these two parks protect complex ecosystems in the heart of the Great Lakes, and each year welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors who come for inspiration, recreation and connecting with nature. The Resource Conservation team is responsible for delivering programs that include ecological integrity monitoring, active ecosystem management, species at risk protection and recovery, environmental impact assessment, and ecological restoration. Resource Conservation staff also support the field unit in such activities as research permitting, providing scientific advice and support to park managers, working with external partners, and contributing to visitor programs and incident response operations.
Intent of the processThis process will be used to staff one indeterminate (permanent) full-time position on-site at Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park within the Resource Conservation department. This process may also be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels, linguistic requirements, or work locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications) EDUCATION:- Graduation with a diploma from a recognized college with specialization in geomatics, geography, cartography or other discipline relevant to geomatics; OR,
- Graduation with a diploma from a recognized college and completion of a minimum of three geomatics courses from a recognized college or university; OR,
- An acceptable combination of two years post-secondary program, training and experience in a field related to the position.
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE- Experience acquiring, storing, processing, analyzing and disseminating scientific and geospatial data in a variety of formats.
- Experience using GIS (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS), as well as word processing, spreadsheet and database management programs (e.g., MS Office).
- Experience troubleshooting geomatics implementations.

- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in various terrains and weather conditions.
- Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy.
- Reliability status security clearance
- Possession of a valid class G or G2 drivers licence
